Area Setup

Table of Contents

Areas represent the actual area location to find a unit within a facility site. Areas may represent an aisle, shelf location, floor area, yard, cabinet, or other sections. Ideally, you will want to set up multiple areas for users in the system to more easily find where something is exactly located. Typically, areas are identified with a location marker that is barcoded (handle) so when items are moved in or out of the area, the area can easily be scanned.

If you currently do not have areas defined for your facility site locations, start by setting up a generic area for each facility. Additional areas can be added later, and your units can then be moved into their actual area location as you continue to add your area locations.

Add New Area

The first step for setting up areas is to define area templates. Templates support different rules and allow us to define a category or type of area. For example, a stock area and a staging area. Review more about Templates.

Be sure you are logged in under the team facility you are adding areas for. Area setup is under Locations on the left menu. Select Area. The grid view for areas based on your current logged in facility will display. Select [Add New].

  1. Facility. The facility you are logged in under will automatically default. If the team you are logged in under has multiple facilities associated, those facilities can also be selected.
  2. Parent Area. This field allows the ability to set up multiple tiers for your areas as an option. For example, Section A of a warehouse may be defined as an area and specific aisle shelf locations can be defined under that Section. Most organizations do not require this complexity for their area setup; however, it is offered as an option.
  3. Template. Select the template for the areas you are adding. The template selected will remain defaulted for you to continue to add areas.
  4. Area ID. This will be the identification for the area (handle) which will typically be barcoded. Area IDs must be unique.
  5. Description. This can be a generic description or can be a more detailed description for the area ID.

Examples for Area ID and Descriptions:
Area ID: A-R01-S01
Description: Aisle A – Rack 1 – Shelf 1

Area ID: DD-01
Description: Dock Door 1

Area ID: CABINET-01
Description: Cabinet 01
