Containers are serialized units that hold items. Depending on the container setup, containers can also hold other containers (that hold items). PanatrackerST supports unlimited nesting capabilities driven by container setup. Rules can be defined to restrict containers holding other containers. Other restrictions can also be defined so a container can only hold one unit for one item master or restrictions based on merging items with different owners or projects.
Movable containers are not only used for shipping and transfers; serialized containers are a great way to be able to move a group of items with a single scan.
Attributes can also be defined for containers the same as they can be defined for item units.
Containers can be created using the standard Create Container transaction. There are also multiple places where containers can be created on-the-fly.
- Receive New Unit
- PO Receiving
- Build Container (as the container being built)
- Build Shipment (as the Pack To Container option)
- Order Pick
- Select Template. Select from your pre-defined container templates. The template setup defines additional data to capture for the containers
- Assign Handle. This is the unique ID for the serialized container. Often pre-printed container labels are affixed to the container and scanned. If the Handle field is skipped, the system will assign the next handle number.
- Project. This will be presented if the rule is enabled on the template. It is an optional field. If entered, only items allocated to the project or items with no project assignment can be added to the container.
- Placed In. The area location for the container.
If there are unit attributes setup on the template, those would be presented and be optional or required based on the setup.
Ownership assignment for the container is based on rule setup. If the items being added are customer-owned; this may be a rule that should be reviewed.
